BENQ WiT e-Reading Lamp Reviewed

I don't get given free stuff very often these days so imagine my delight to be given something as flash as this lamp from BENQ. I can honestly say it's a very good light for modellers - but only if you can afford to splash the extra as it's not a cheap product. In this video I put the lamp through a series of tests against my current LED Task Lamp, though I didn't want to do a straight up compa...

    Nice video. BTW, I always use acrylics for washes, with very few problems. I apply them over enamel or lacquer paint or clear coat, and clean the excess with a Q-tip moistened with isopropyl alcohol. I find it less smelly and less messy to use than oil or enamel washes. Allow the wash to dry to touch (about 1/2 hour) and clean the excess before it cures.

    I was thinking maybe of getting some of those photography diffusers. The big white squares and wall mount two of em. One of each side of my work desk. And then grabbing one of these lamps or similar. Not sure about if that’s way overboard though.

      Led lamps are much cheaper nowadays, with built in diffusers etc. The Benq is a really good lamp for on your desk but the price (at the time of this video anyway) was high. Shop around and find what works for you. Wall mounting is a great idea though, keep that bench space nice and open

    Amazing weathering tutorial using pigments! Going to use this on my next tank for sure. Is there a substitute for the scenic fixer that you can suggest. Looks a bit like pea glue in the video, but I’m guessing it isn’t? Liked and subbed 👍

    • @ScaleModelMedic
      @ScaleModelMedic Рік тому

      Hi, thank you for taking time to comment. The scenic glue is likely some derivative of pva, it dries matt so realistically either an acrylic matt varnish or a combo of matt varnish and pva would probably do the job just fine. Normal pva would probably get you by but you do run a low risk of getting some gloss finish where it builds up. I've used mig ammo matt acrylic varnish in the past with similar results, it won't take you long at all to find something that works for you and get the hang of it! Happy modelling

    • @ScaleModelMedic
      @ScaleModelMedic Рік тому

      Hi, sure! No problem. It is indeed just a household sponge but it's the paper that makes it work properly. It's baking parchment, not wax paper. It has to be the right paper as this is what permits the water to pass through one way only, replenishing the water in the paint but not letting the paint into the reservoir. I bought a big roll of it on amazon.

    • @jrgreiner

    The realism you've gotten makes me suspect you've worked in a foundry, smelter or some kind of heavy industry where you'd be around these pipes. All that's missing is cigarette butts, empty yellow demarkation spray cans and a couple of worn out workman's gloves and this would fit in at the copper smelter I spent my 20's working at.

    Can you apply the paint with a brush? Or better to spray? Can it also be acrylic paint?

    • @ScaleModelMedic
      @ScaleModelMedic Рік тому

      Hi, there's a bit of chemistry involved here so I need to make sure I'm very specific. The rust colour can't be acrylic paint, it needs to be strong pigmented enamel hence why I use weathering powder in enamel varnish. This is what allows the rust colour to run when the thinner is added. Because this layer is sealed in really well by the varnish and I am using a manual chipping method I. E not chipping fluid, you could use a paintbrush to apply the second layer of colour yes. This actually NEEDS to be acrylic to prevent it interacting with the thinner that makes the rust colour run.

      @@ScaleModelMedic Ok I think I have a grasp on the concept. I should’ve wrote what I asked a bit better as I I wanted to know if the paint on the second layer of colour could be acrylic. I’m excited about trying out oils and pigments for weathering to add to general acrylic paint jobs.
